The Secret: What Happened Backstage in Los Angeles in 2017
In 2017, backstage in Los Angeles, I shared a vision with Jack Canfield — co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul and one of the teachers in The Secret. I had no idea that vision would one day become reality. This is that story.
What a Start to the Day
This morning, someone in the United States sent me photographs I had not seen in years.
Backstage. Los Angeles. 2017.
There I am, standing with Jack Canfield — co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul, a series that has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide, co-author of The Success Principles, and one of the teachers featured in The Secret.
He was a legend long before The Secret. And there we were, in conversation.
The Vision I Shared
I remember that moment clearly.
I told Jack that I wanted to coach, mentor and speak all around the world — helping people recognise and realise their full potential.
At the time, it was only a goal. A crystal-clear picture in my imagination. A vision I held with absolute conviction, even though the path ahead was far from certain.
I did not know exactly how it would happen. I simply knew, with every part of me, that it would.
What Has Happened Since
Today, we have coached, mentored and spoken across five continents.
When those photographs arrived this morning, I had to pause. I had to sit with that for a moment.
Because the gap between a vision held in your imagination and a life actually lived is not luck. It is not coincidence. It is the result of thousands of decisions, made consistently, from a place of belief rather than fear.
What I Remember Most
But here is what I remember most about that conversation with Jack — and it is not the achievements, the stages, or the milestones.
It is the human side.
We spoke about our stories. Our families. Our children. Our dreams. And who we are becoming along the way.
Some of the insights from that conversation have genuinely guided many of my decisions since. They have helped shape the way we teach, the way we coach and mentor, and how we help others create, design and achieve what they truly want from life.
Because the most meaningful conversations do not always reveal their full impact in the moment.
Sometimes, their influence quietly continues to shape the person we are becoming — and the difference we go on to make in the lives of others.
The Question That Stays With Me
What is the point of building something extraordinary if we lose sight of the people who make life extraordinary?
The answer, I believe, is that we must hold both. The ambition and the humanity. The vision and the relationships. The destination and the journey.
A Question for You
Can you see your future clearly enough to make one decision today from that place?
Not just wishing. Not just hoping. But believing enough to begin — and having the courage to keep going, even when the path is not yet visible.
Here is something practical you can do right now:
Write down what you see. Make the picture vivid. Connect with why it matters deeply to you. Then take one action today — just one — that moves you towards it.
Not tomorrow. Today.
Still Learning. Still Becoming.
To Jack Canfield and the Jack Canfield Companies — we celebrate you, and thank you for the phenomenal work you have shared with the world. Thank you for that deep, meaningful conversation and for the insights that have continued to travel with me ever since.
We did it. And we are not stopping.
And to the person in the United States who sent these photographs this morning — thank you for giving me the opportunity to pause, reflect and appreciate a journey that truly never ends.
We are still learning. Still growing. Still becoming.
And we are only just getting started.
